I originally decided on 'Ronin' because of the historical, cultural and slightly symbolic nature of the word. For those unfamiliar to Japanese history, the ronin were part of the warrior class, the samurai, during the Edo period. In particular , to be ronin was to be a 'masterless' samurai; wandering about the countryside for good or bad without loyalties or ties. As a history major who likes to travel, adores East Asian culture and is a sucker for anything that says "warrior", it seemed like a perfect title. Well, that, and I figured with anime's growing popularity more people would be able to recognize the Japanese "Ronin" as oppose to Mandarin "zhan shi", (both in forth tone) meaning "fighter, warrior, soldier". However, with my extended travel in China, for a while I was leaning toward the latter ;-)
As for the rest of it, I ended up going with Ronin fur because I'm somewhat of an anthropomorphic artist, and still a fan of the genre. Together, the two words meshed well, and sounded like a good name for a domain. Nuff said.
Roninfur.com hits it's fifth layout with Version 6.0- "Free as the Feng Huang" The current layout uses CSS, and Javascript. Currently handles best with a screen of 1024x768 or higher on Firefox or Safari, but it should work well on any browser that enables images and supports Javascript.Created with Photoshop Elements, and a lot of cold, hard coding.
The domain, Roninfur.com is registered with Godaddy.com services. This site has been with several hosting services over the years, and currently looks to Cirtexhosting.com to keep it running.

Q: How long has Roninfur been around?
A: Individual sites, or the collective? The domain, Roninfur.com was first registered in August of 2002, and has gone through six years and five layout changes. The websites however, have had significantly longer life spans, with the oldest website (Cape Suzette) kicking off in 1997, and the Ravine in 1999, both on individual free hosting plans.
Q: What tools do you use?
A: "Mac enthusiast" would not be a bad personal description. Sure, Apple's not Microsoft, but after all, an't that kinda the point? Meanwhile, with system 10.4.7 still purring like a kitten, I adore Tiger and love my ibook! For the web sites themselves, I work with the hard code in a text editor, exporting to HTML documents. For those interested in a WYSIWYG program, I recommend Adobe Dreamweaver, or the far less expensive Mozilla's Seamonkey, which has a pretty darned good composer. For the graphics, I use a wacom Intous tablet (a must for any computer colorist) and combination Photoshop Elements 3.0 with Coral PaintShop.
Q: Will you host my site? /Will you design and update a webpage for me?/ Can I use your images/design/layout?
A: No. There are lots of hosting options, both free and paid for new or experianced web designers. Roninfur however, started as a personal site, and will remain so. Nothing from this domain may be publicly displayed, linked to, distributed or altered without my permission first. You may however, link to the individual sites if you like. ;-)
