Ranma Super Hard Battle is actually a game
created for Snes called "Ranma Nibunnoich: Chougi Rambuhen"
(Ranma 1/2: Super Skill Wild Dance Chapter). The game (as if
you couldn't guess) is a Japanese fighting game staring the
caste of Ranma 1/2. Originally it *was* scheduled for
release in North America; however, it never seemed to make
the cut. A fairly fun fighting game- I tried a demo once,
and it was a pretty good as far as I was concerned.
Essentially you take your pick from a list of Ranma 1/2
regulars, and fight everyone else for a special prize- - a
welcoming cat charm that will grant a wish to the one who
correctly mixes tweleve ingredients.
So why all the hullabaloo? Welp, because as it turns out,
the end "boss" of Super Hard battle turns out to be none
less then.....
Ta da! Yep, it's Herb! He claims
that if you want the prize, you've got to fight him first!
After you've defeated all the other characters he will show
up and greet you:
"Thank you! You've saved me the
trouble of finding the ingredients myself! This is the
treasure of Jakou-Maneki. If you want it, you must take it
by force! (literally, "knock me down and get it.") If by
some incredible chance you manage to defeat me, you're more
than welcome to the treasure"
"But now, taste the power of the dragon's
descendant, master of ki, heir to the throne of
Jakou-Maneki!"
Note that "Jakou" is a Japanese noun for
"Musk" and "Maneki" is invitation. The prize you're battling
for is the "Maneki Neko". Herb's stage is the Athens
Parthanone.
Overall, the game is a good one. You can choose from a
multitude of popular characters, with a ton of different
moves and combinations all while enjoying decent sound and
good graphics. From a Herb fan's point of view, it's the
absolute best! The Musk prince comes off excellent in this-
Herb's unquestionably one of the toughest character the game
throws at you, with a wide variety of both chi and hand
attacks. Plus, the game makes him a damn good blocker; it's
hard to avoid getting hit by his attacks, but even harder to
hit him yourself.
But wait! It doesn't end there! If you're not
satisfied simply playing against Herb, you can play the game
*with* him.
Tag match: This is how (without cheat codes) a player can
battle with Herb. You pick two characters while a friend
picks their own (or you can choose "CPU" under options-two
player, and battle the game). Your characters step into a
ring with various other Ranma 1/2 characters cheering them
on and.....you know the rest.
Codes: Well, like numerous other games, Super Hard battle
offers a few codes of it's own. For Herb, it's holding down
the 'R' and 'L' button as you choose 'story' or 'vs battle'
modes. This will enable you to use Herb in the game, and pit
him up against other Ranma 1/2 regulars like below. ^_^
***Note: Screen captures were taken by me, She-Wolf; if
you wish to use them, please ask for
permission first. Oh,
and please, no requests for the ROM or ROM links. Quite
honestly, I have no idea where it exists now, if it DOES
still exist. Go to Japan, buy the game there ^_~
